So-hot-right-now movie star Sydney Sweeney looked incredible on the red carpet at yesterday’s People’s Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California.

Anyone But You star Sweeney, 26, walked the red carpet in a figure-hugging, low-cut red dress, before taking the stage with her co-star in the smash hit rom com, Glen Powell, during the show.

She and Powell were joined by noughties pop singer Natasha Bedingfield for a sweet moment on stage, the trio singing along to Bedingfield’s 2004 hit Unwritten, which is racing back up the charts thanks to its use in the film.

A surprise hit at the box office, Anyone But You this week crossed an unexpected new threshold: It is now the highest-grossing live-action Shakespeare adaptation of all time.

Shakespeare, you ask? Yep, the slightly cheesy rom-com is in fact an adaptation of the Bard’s Much Ado About Nothing.

It’s now overtaken Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation of Romeo + Juliet as the biggest box office success based on a Shakespeare work.

Anyone But You was nominated for several awards at yesterday’s ceremony, but lost out to films including Barbie and, in the case of Best Comedy Performer, Jennifer Lawrence for No Hard Feelings.

Barbie won the Movie of the Year award, while the film’s supporting actress – and current Oscar nominee – America Ferrera won the Performance of the Year award for her role in the movie.

Sweeney and Powell filmed Anyone But You here in Australia, returning to our shores for some last-minute reshoots after the Hollywood strike, before coming back again for the film’s premiere Down Under.

And Sweeney returned to the US with some tales of the customs she’d picked up during her time in Australia – among them, her fascination with schoolies week on the Gold Coast and the unfortunate phenomenon that is “toolies”. Viewers in America were amazed when she recounted these quirky Australian cultural findings during a December interview with talk show host Jimmy Fallon.
