Sabrina Carpenter addresses criticism over pantless Met Gala look

Sabrina Carpenter wore a bold pantless outfit to the Met Gala this week, and she’s since issued a blunt comment after her look was criticised online.

Sabrina Carpenter has responded after her Met Gala outfit was criticised online.

The US pop star, 25, stepped out at fashion’s night of nights in New York in a custom brown Louis Vuitton leotard, a tight-fitting blazer number with an exaggerated collar.

The bold pantless look was a slight pivot from Carpenter’s usually feminine old Hollywood-style frocks, and at least one critic had a rather brutal assessment of the Espresso singer’s style choice, describing it as a “perfect example of how dressing against your body type can go horribly wrong.”

“In her interview, she said the designer suggested she go pantless because she’s already petite. But actually, it’s quite the opposite. The contrast between the dark brown and her bare legs and the dark shoes again is chopping off her already tiny body at 3 different sections,” the user continued in their tweet shared to X, also sharing a side-by-side photo of what they thought Carpenter should’ve worn which has been viewed by more than 25 million people.

“The oversized buttons on either end are adding the illusion of wider waist,” the post continued.

Carpenter took the unusual step of re-sharing the tweet with her 2.4 million X followers, in which she quipped, “damn I f***ed up..”

Fans of the star applauded her for making light of the savage criticism, with one saying, “we don’t deserve your sense of humour.”

“Self roast,” another joked.

“God I love her,” a third added.

“How unserious you are just makes me love you more,” a fourth chimed in.

Meanwhile, Carpenter narrowly avoided her ex-boyfriend Barry Keoghan on Tuesday, which officially marked one year since they made their first – and only – red carpet appearance together at the 2024 Met Gala.

The pair both attended Vogue’s event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this week, only four months after news of their split made headlines.

“They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break,” an insider told People of their break-up in December.

Carpenter and Keoghan, 32 were first linked in December 2023.

While they enjoyed a relatively private union, the Saltburn star famously starred in the music video for Carpenter’s hit song Please, Please, Please in June.

Keoghan had also been spotted several times at Carpenter’s concerts, including her blockbuster set at Coachella in April.

But by August, reports emerged the couple were on-and-off as Carpenter was growing tired of Keoghan’s partying ways.
