Moment Sam Worthington shuts down Seven reporter live on-air

Sam Worthington didn’t take kindly to this awkward flub from a Seven reporter regarding his wife Lara during a Sydney event last night.

Sam Worthington wasn't happy what this seven reporter called his wife

Australian actor Sam Worthington was quick to correct a Channel 7 reporter on-air in Sydney last night, when she made the mistake of referring to his wife Lara by her maiden name.

Seven News reporter Sally Bowrey was reporting live from the GQ Man of the Year awards at Sydney’s White Bay Power Station, when she introduced the Avatar actor and his wife, “Lara Bingle.”

Worthington – already looking rather unimpressed at the prospect of being interviewed – quickly shot back: “Worthington. Her name’s Lara Worthington. Jeez, it’s only been ten years.”

Bowrey offered her “apologies” to the couple, and Lara appeared less offended by the flub, laughing it off.

The couple wed in 2014 and have three children together. Of course, before she became Lara Worthington, the former model was better known by her maiden name, and was even the subject of a short-lived reality show called Being Lara Bingle.

Nowadays, Lara prefers to live a quieter life largely out of the spotlight.

“We tend to try to keep our lives as normal as we can. I don’t think about that stuff ever. I don’t make it my reality,” she told Marie Claire last year of the tabloid culture she’s experienced for more than 20 years.

“My mum instilled in me that it’s important to maintain a little bit of mystery. I think it’s hard in this day and age to achieve. I’ve tried to keep things pretty close to my chest and I think there’s a certain elegance to that.”

The couple, who split their time between Sydney and New York, were back on home turf for Sam to accept GQ’s Man of the Year award, alongside a guest list of stars including American actor Cooper Koch, radio star Jackie O Henderson, country singer Orville Peck and lead singer of the 1975, Matty Healy (yes, the fella who dated Taylor Swift).

Also in attendance is Cody Simpson, actor Josh Heuston, tennis champ Dylan Alcott, Olympic gold medallist Noemie Fox, breakdancer RayGun. AFL legend Eddie Betts and even a royal: Count Nikolai of Monpezat, 25, from the Danish royal family.
