Veteran TV presenter Catriona Rowntree has slammed the Victorian state government over a proposal to cover land near her family property southwest of Melbourne.

The Getaway and Country House Hunters Australia took aim at Premier Jacinta Allan’s government in a blistering social media post, pointing out that the plan would “destroy” the beautiful landscape.

“Welcome to beautiful Mount Rothwell in Little River,” Rowntree began in her video, going on to describe how the area had been used as the site for many films and TV shows which had brought in “a fortune for the local government”.

“This incredible area, [the Labor government] is now considering covering this area in a solar farm in their rush for renewables. They are considering all of these completely wrong locations,” she went on.

“So how can you help? Some of you may know that we have been battling as well, they want to put a lithium facility in a firezone in Little River.

“What did Little River ever do to the Labor government? I don’t know why you keep picking on us. No one will talk to us, it’s been nearly seven months, we’ve heard nothing.”

In the caption, Rowntree urged her 120,000 followers to vote in the upcoming Werribee by-election for the local Liberal candidate, Steve Murphy, who she said “actually took the time to visit us and see how wrong this area is for their renewables”.

The TV host also issued a direct call-out to the premier, tagging Jacinta Allen and asking: “Where are you? Why do you want to ruin what is the Number 1 film location in Victoria? Why won’t anyone from Victorian Labor stop this?”

Rowntree added: “@viclabor, you should be ashamed.”

It comes after she launched a public campaign against the proposed lithium battery farm which it was pitched to be located between Geelong and Melbourne – next to her Little River home.

Rowntree branded ACEnergy’s Little River Battery Energy Storage System plan as the “dodgiest deal ever” and said it would destroy the national park’s landscape and impact tourism.
