Australian actor and Oscar nominee Guy Pearce got choked up as he recalled his harrowing experience working with Kevin Spacey.

The pair starred together in 90s classic L.A. Confidential, and while the film became a beloved classic, Pearce says his experience was tainted by Spacey’s behaviour toward him.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Pearce claims that Spacey harassed him for months on the set of the thriller.

While filming on location in Los Angeles, Pearce was in town with his then-wife Kate.

He recalled telling her that “the only days I feel safe are the days when [Simon Baker] is on set because I’m dumped like a hot potato, and [Kevin] focuses on [Simon] because he was 10 times prettier than I am.”

He continued: “He [Spacey] holds a room remarkably, but I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question.”

In October 2017, veteran actor Anthony Rapp came forward with claims that Spacey made sexual advances at a party in New York in 1986 when he was just 14.

Rapp sued the actor, but Spacey was later found not liable.

Numerous accusations soon followed and Spacey was shunned by Hollywood.

However, Pearce has now insisted that he doesn’t “want him to get away with what he gets away with”.

Opening up about seeing the headlines at the time about Spacey, Pearce recalled “breaking down” crying while in London.

“I was in London working on something, and I heard [the reports] and I broke down and sobbed, and I couldn’t stop,” he shared.

“I think it really dawned on me the impact that had occurred and how I sort of brushed it off and how I had either shelved it or blocked it out or whatever. That was a really incredible wake up call.”

Spacey was acquitted of all nine charges of sexual assault by a British jury in 2023, bringing an end to a years-long battle that derailed his career.

“I am humbled by the outcome,” he said at the time.

The alleged offences included seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.
