Queen Camilla’s cheeky dig at King Charles

King Charles came face-to-face with an unlikely pie doppelganger at a London flower show and Queen Camilla couldn’t resist having a laugh at her husband’s expense.

King Charles’ pie face: King and Queen wowed by unusual portrait

Queen Camilla has had a cheeky laugh at King Charles’s expense after the King met his likeness in pie form when he toured the Sandringham Flower Show with the Queen – who gave the pastry portrait her seal of approval.

The couple came across the pie as they visited the long-running event, which takes place every year on the royal estate.

The pie had been entered in the category “a dainty dish to set before a king”, and featured a face with incredibly large ears and a crown.

When Queen Camilla saw the pie, she joked to her assistants: “That looks very much like my husband.”

“There’s a very, very nice pastry,” she said calling her husband over.

King Charles saw the funny side, remarking: “It’s an artwork, I think.”

The royal couple arrived in a horse-drawn carriage to the one-day event, which draws around 20,000 people every year and is currently celebrating its 140th anniversary.

They attended the Sandringham Flower Show last year as the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall when life looked much different before the death of Queen Elizabeth. The 2022 event marked the return of the show for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic.

Throughout the engagement, the royals also toured an exhibition by Flowers From The Farm, who supplied blooms for the couple’s Westminster Abbey coronation.

The annual show, which is celebrating its 140th anniversary, was first staged to showcase the horticultural skills of royal workers on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The Sandringham Flower Show has expanded over the years, with King George VI introducing a number of competitions including the King George VI Challenge Cup and the Queen Mother Challenge Cup.

The annual event also features display gardens, hundreds of trade and charity stands, crafts, kid’s entertainment and a police band, plus royal marquee-hosted competitions for vegetables, fruit, flowers and floral art, and profits from the event benefit local charities.

“It’s always such an honour and as we walked around everyone was in high spirits. It’s unbelievable the amount of hands they shake, people are so happy to see them. It’s hard to get away,” the event’s Chairman David Reeve told reporters.

“The King knows more about plants than many people here. Every show I learn something different from him. He’s knowledgeable on so many subjects, but especially this.”

The Sandringham Flower Show is a “hardy annual” in the royals’ calendar and signals the King and Queen’s last joint engagement before departing for their summer holidays.
