Queen Camilla has “finally got her own back” on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by releasing her own podcast – just months after their lucrative deal was axed.
Queen Camilla, 76, has launched The Reading Room podcast, which follows in the footsteps of her successful online book club.
According to The Sun, the move is bound to ruffle the feathers of Prince Harry, 39, and wife Meghan, 42, whose Archetypes podcast and their entire Spotify deal was given the boot last June.
It comes as King Charles’ wife was cruelly branded the “villain” and “dangerous” by her stepson in his book Sparelast year.
And while Camilla kept a dignified silence following the attack, one expert says she has subtly got her own back by succeeding where Harry and Meghan seemingly failed.
Denise Palmer Davies, brand expert and director of Borne Media, said: “After all the hurtful things Harry has said about Camilla, she has finally got her own back on them.
“If her podcast does well, and I am sure it will, she will have achieved in an area they so desperately wanted to succeed in, then that is the perfect revenge.
“I bet Meghan in particular will be livid over the whole thing, and probably a bit embarrassed that hers fell at the first hurdle.”
Queen Camilla, an avid reader, will personally host the podcast and will be joined by high profile guests such as actress Dame Joanna Lumley, writer Sir Ian Rankin, and others.
In a teaser for the new pod, the royal reveals that one of her favourite book series is Harry Potter and that her husband King Charles III “can do all the voices.”
Camilla’s online book club, The Queen’s Reading Room, was set up during the Covid-19 lockdown when she shared some of the literature she read during the pandemic. The club’s Instagram page has 168,000 followers and in 2023 it launched its own literary festival.
Royal expert Jennie Bond predicts Camilla’s podcast will be just as successful as her book club because of her genuine motive behind it.
“We have learned in the past couple of years that reading has been a passion for Camilla since her childhood and this is a way of sharing that love,” said Ms Bond.
“In a hectic world so dominated by short form social media messages – and giving us attention spans of a gnat – it is a noble aim to encourage children and adults to enjoy a good, long read.”
It is understood that Camilla will not benefit financially from the podcast personally.
“That’s what this is about, not money, not campaigning or railing against the world, just a gentle encouragement to enjoy great storytelling,” said Ms. Bond.
Meghan may be feeling “envious” of Camilla’s new venture and her new role.
“While I don’t think Camilla will expend much energy pondering about Meghan, I imagine Meghan might look quite enviously across the pond at how Camilla has adapted to royal life, made a success of her role, and is increasingly admired by the public.
“The more we see of this Queen, the more I think people come to appreciate that she is an immensely likeable person, down-to-earth, caring and dignified, and that will all contribute to the undoubted success of her podcast.
“Unlike Meghan, she doesn’t have to please any commissioning editors, it’s not a commercial venture, it is a charitable venture.
“Camilla is also showing that she fully embraces the modern world of Instagram and podcasts, and she feels very comfortable talking about literature.”
