Princess Mary of Denmark spotted cycling around Sydney streets

Cyclists may have noticed they were sharing the road with a very famous face as one of the nation’s beloved exports returns home.

Crown Princess Mary has made a grand entrance on her first official visit to Australia in more than a decade.

The Tasmanian-born royal touched down on home soil on Thursday night after flying into Sydney.

Her first order of business was hitting the 2km cycle route around the city’s iconic Hyde Park along with City of Sydney staff.

“It’s wonderful to be here,” she told a Sunrise reporter who caught her just before heading off.

Her face spread into a smile as she confirmed she was enjoying her time in Sydney and was “looking forward to the bike ride”.

Dressed in a classic Scandinavian combination of a crisp white T-shirt, dark blazer and accented with pieces of fine gold jewellery, Princess Mary on a helmet and greeted the flock of media.

The beloved princess, 51, will lead a Danish delegation heading discussions over Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

She will visit Danish-linked construction and transport projects alongside the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate policy.

The short trip to Australia follows a week-long visit to Vanuatu and Fiji where she hoped to focus international attention on the consequences of climate change on Pacific island nations.

Princess Mary was last in Australia over Christmas, celebrating the day with her four children, husband Prince Frederik and extended family in Hobart.

The family were photographed while soaking up the sun at Palm Beach over the holidays.

Her last official engagement, however, was in 2013.

Princess Mary will have to rush back soon to the UK where she is among an exclusive guest list for King Charles III’s coronation on May 6.

The future Queen of Denmark met Prince Federik while at a pub in Sydney watching the 2000 Summer Olympics. The couple wed in 2004.
