Princess Catherine’s response to a comment about her one day becoming Britain’s “queen” has been praised by fans online as footage from a 2013 engagement has resurfaced on TikTok.
The Princess of Wales is currently the second-most senior female member of the monarchy, behind Queen Camilla.
After the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, Middleton became the new Princess of Wales, a title held by the wife of the Prince of Wales.
Princess Catherine’s presence and role within the Royal Family were placed under scrutiny this year when she disappeared from the public eye for a time as she dealt with a cancer diagnosis.
The princess underwent abdominal surgery in January, publicly announcing in March that cancer had been detected and a course of “preventive chemotherapy” had been recommended.
Kate made her first official public appearance on 15 June at the Trooping the Colour celebrations, and then attended her favourite - the men’s singles of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships a month later.
But in a health update in June, the royal said she would mostly work from home and make select public appearances as her treatment remains ongoing.
To fill in the absences, some royal fans have made reels of highlights from the past to post to social media.
In one clip, at a 2013 event, Kate is seen greeting a very elderly woman who is seated.
The woman says shakes Kate’s hand and says, “I’m waiting for you to be queen”.
“You’ll be waiting an awfully long time,” says Kate, cheerfully.
This was almost a decade before the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and just two years into the young royal’s marriage.
Now, she is the second-most senior female member of the monarchy second to Queen Camilla, and her husband is next in line to inherit the throne after her 75-year-old father-in-law, King Charles III.
The monarch is experiencing his own cancer battle, and so the prospect of future queen consort Kate draws nearer.
Other reasons the clip has gone viral is seeing Kate dancing, and being referred to as a “modern day princess”.
“Queen Catherine will be magnificent,” wrote one TikTok user.
Another posted “She’s going to be the best Queen ever.”
