Princess Catherine has declared she is finally in remission as she embraced patients at the hospital where she underwent chemotherapy.
Kate drew comparisons to her late mother-in-law Diana as she hugged and comforted men and women still in the throes of treatment.
She posted an emotional recap of the visit to her and Prince William’s Instagram account.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” Princess Catherine wrote.
“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.
“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.
“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.
“I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. “Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
The Princess made the heartwarming visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London after it was announced she would join her husband William as joint patron – an honour previously held by Princess Diana.
In her first solo engagement since her diagnosis, the Princess of Wales did the rounds at the hospital, hugging and laying a soothing hand on patients.
“I wanted to come and show my support for the amazing work that’s going on here and for those who are going through treatment and having such a hard time,” Princess Catherine said greeting patients upon her arrival.
“Are you OK? There is light at the end of that tunnel, very nice to meet you and best of luck. You are in the best of hands.”
The Princess revealed to another patient revealed to another patient it was surreal to be returning to the hospital.
“I was just saying, coming in the front entrance here, having made so many quiet, private visits, actually it’s quite nice,” the royal said.
Just as Princess Diana used to make a point of physically touching the patients she visited, Princess Catherine was seen putting a comforting hand on shoulders and embracing many of the men and women she met.
The Princess announced in September she had finally completed her chemotherapy treatment which had been described as “preventive”.
She seemed delighted when one of the patients at the Marsden complimented her on how resilient she had been for the sake of her young family.
“I think you’ve managed the children amazingly well,” the woman remarked to Catherine.
“Oh, that’s kind,” the Princess replied.
A Kensington Palace aide told the Daily Mail the solo visit to the hospital didn’t change the fact that Princess Catherine needed to be mindful of her own health and continue with a gradual return to duties.
“Today was about visiting the Marsden to reflect on her own personal journey,” the aide said.
Kate disappeared from public view after Christmas in 2023 sparking wild speculation about her whereabouts.
She re-emerged several months later to confirm she had cancer and was undergoing treatment.
