Concern over Prince William's plans for future of the Royal Family

IN LONDON

Princess Anne’s husband has revealed she is “recovering slowly” after being hospitalised with a concussion.

The Princess Royal, 73, is reportedly unable to recall exactly what happened before she suffered “minor head injuries” while walking on her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, in England’s west, on Sunday night. It’s understood she may have been struck by a horse.

The King’s sister was transported to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where, according to husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, she’ll remain until “she’s ready”.

Sir Timothy’s brief remarks outside the hospital on Wednesday followed his two-and-a-half hour visit with his wife.

The day prior, he told waiting media that she was “doing fine, slow but sure”.

“We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care – and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene,” he told reporters.

“We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far. It means a great deal.”

Anne’s injuries were first revealed by Buckingham Palace in a statement on Monday.

“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery,” it read.

“The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.

“Her Royal Highness is receiving appropriate expert care. No further details are being shared at this stage. Her Royal Highness will remain in Southmead Hospital unless or until her medical team advise otherwise.”
