Prince William sends fans wild in camo gear as he debuts new title

Prince William has sent royal fans wild after sporting full camouflage gear while debuting his new title as Colonel-in-Chief.

The Prince of Wales, 41, was visiting the Mercian Regiment in Salisbury where he joined soldiers for training and was given a briefing on the regiment’s work ahead of their deployment next year.

That operation will see the 12th Armoured Brigade Combat Team deployed to Poland to provide a range of services including combat engineering, bridge crossing and air defence.

During the visit, the royal also threw smoke grenades and manned the gun of a Warrior armoured vehicle as he took part in a mock attack on an enemy position.

But it wasn’t his military skills that caught the attention of royal fans, who were more impressed by the father-of-three’s “dashing” looks in the traditional army uniform.

After pictures of the engagement began to circulate on social media, one fan wrote: “Need to make an action Prince William doll.”

Another wrote: “He does look good in any uniform doesn’t he?”.

Others were more to the point: “ Prince William looks so fine in his uniform, I’m melting!” “Prince William in uniform is [ fire emoji]. Love that he was able to take part in the training with the soldiers. Some great moments coming out of it,” posted another.

Later on the prince chatted with the soldiers as they relaxed over tea and cakes in a mess tent, remarking on the moustaches sported by a number of the troops.

He told one he had a “great moustache”, adding: “It’s a work of art.”

The soldiers also discussed their specialist roles and William asked detailed questions about the new technology fitted to the enormous armoured vehicles, remarking: “I always wanted to go in one so I’m glad I had the chance.”

The royal was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment by King Charles in August this year.

William served as a regimental officer in the British Army, before gaining experience in the Royal Air Force, the Royal navy and then becoming a full-time pilot with the Royal Air Force’s Search and Rescue Force (SARF).

It has been a busy few days for the royal who welcomed South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee.

But all eyes were on William and Catherine as they put on some rare public displays of affection.
