Prince Harry, Meghan Markle issue furious statement amid backlash: ‘Cannot be broken’

The couple has sensationally issued a furious statement after a claim was published in the UK about their relationship with the royal family.

Harry and Meghan's latest rebrand

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sensationally hit back following claims their Invictus Games trip to Canada is make or break for their future with the monarchy.

The couple popped up in Vancouver for the event’s 2025 launch celebration this week, which came just days after the Duke of Sussex rushed back to the UK for a brief — but personal — visit with his cancer-stricken father, King Charles.

It had marked the pair’s first in-person conversation for some time, following months of turmoil amid the Sussexes’ public criticisms of the royal family — and potentially signals a positive new chapter.

However, according to the UK Telegraph’s royal editor, the couple now has “three days to prove they can behave”, “keep schtum” (i.e. quiet) and “prove their discretion” while on their latest high-profile outing.

The claim, published on Wednesday, has prompted a furious reaction from Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson.

“We’ve heard time and time again that certain opportunities are make or break for the couple,” a statement to The Mirror read.

“They’re still here. They’re still working and pursuing what they believe in, despite constantly being challenged and criticised. This couple will not be broken.”

Harry and Meghan certainly appeared to be shrugging off recent backlash over their new website as they hit the slopes in Whistler for the Invictus Games event on Tuesday.

Sussex.com was launched earlier this week, replacing the Archewell.com site they’d been using since 2020 (their Archewell Foundation remains in operation).

Their first joint online venture, SussexRoyal.com, was abandoned on instruction from the late Queen Elizabeth II after they announced their intention to step down from royal duties in 2020.

Under the terms of the exit agreement struck with Buckingham Palace in 2020, Harry and Meghan are permitted to use their Duke and Duchess titles but cannot use “HRH” commercially.

They launched their new website earlier this week.

However, the new website features a royal crest and offers a link back to the original “Sussex Royal” page, which many have pointed out could be in violation of the late monarch’s order.

According to the Mail Online, there is even a possibility it could be shut down by the royal family.

“They are going to have real trouble with the use of Sussex,” the source said.

“It is a royal title and if there is any hint of commercialism about this it will be shut down.”

However, another insider defended the couple’s decision: “Prince Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That is a fact. It is their surname and family name.”
