Meghan Markle’s award presentation delayed due to LA riots

Meghan Markle was due to receive an award the same day the spotlight is supposed to be on King Charles at his birthday parade – until the Duchess’ gong ceremony was yanked at the 11th hour.

Meghan Markle was set to be honoured for her contribution to championing “undeserved communities” on the same day as King Charles’ Trooping the Colour parade, but the Duchess’ event has been postponed due to the LA riots.

Meghan was due to receive the award at the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County’s Night of Wonder gala on Saturday just hours after Charles annual birthday parade.

The decision to delay the event was made by the museum’s board of trustees.

“As an institution ‘of, for, and with Los Angeles,’ our responsibility during challenging times is clear: to serve as a community resource focused on healing and unity, not celebration,” Dr Lori Bettison-Varga, museum president and director told People.

“Los Angeles needs us to channel our energy toward supporting our neighbours and demonstrating the values that make our city and county strong.”

In a statement announcing the Duchess’ nomination, Dr Bettison-Varga sang her praises.

“Night of Wonder celebrates and supports the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County’s commitment to science, nature, and community,” she said.

“We are proud to honour Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, a native Angeleno, whose work to advance community wellbeing and expand opportunity — especially for undeserved communities — aligns with our equity-focused approach to developing science literacy for the next generation, including through our STEM and STEAM Pathways programs.”

Last year during Charles annual birthday parade, which also marked the first public appearance of Princess Catherine following her cancer diagnosis, Meghan came under fire after an influencer pal spruiked dog treats from her lifestyle brand on social media.

While the dog treats were never released, many commenters felt the timing was in poor taste.

Page Six has reached out to Meghan’s rep for comment but did not immediately hear back.

The former Suits actor, 43, launched As Ever in February after facing several trademark issues with its former name, American Riviera Orchard.

MEGHAN AND HARRY’S REAL LIFE DISNEY PRINCESS

Prince Harry and Meghan made a quick getaway to Disneyland with their two kids as they continue to face backlash over their “cringey” pregnancy video.

In a clip shared to Markle’s Instagram, the family of four posed for photos at the “happiest place on Earth” and Disney California Adventure with the faces of Archie, 6, and Lili, 4, covered by hearts.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also seen introducing Archie and Lili to Queen Elsa, enjoying a Little Mermaid cake, and shopping for Mickey and Minnie Mouse plushies.

They were also seen escorting their son on the popular Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride and Lili on the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters ride.

Both kids were photographed riding the famous King Arthur Carousel side-by-side, as well. She and her husband got into the spirit, wearing matching Mickey ears with their kids.

“Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!” the As Ever founder captioned the clip on Friday, which was accompanied by Peggy Lee’s “It’s a Good Day.”

The family trip to Disneyland appeared to fall on Lilibet’s fourth birthday on Wednesday.

It also came amid social media backlash over a video of Markle and her husband dancing in the delivery room ahead of their baby girl’s birth in 2021.

The clip showed Markle, 43, in a black delivery gown, dancing next to the hospital bed to the viral “Baby Momma Dance Song.”

The father of two, 40, could also be seen crossing in front of the screen in a green hoodie and jeans while hyping the imminent birth.

“Four years ago today, this also happened,” she captioned the post on Wednesday.

“Both of our children were a week past their due dates … so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do!”

Some were unimpressed and trolled the couple via social media.

“Make it stop. #Cringe,” wrote an X user, while another wrote, “Everything they do to be ‘relatable’ is weirdly not relatable. It’s bizarre how they never miss.”

Markle also shared tender, never-before-seen photos with their daughter. In one post, Markle shared a pair of black and white photos with Lili — a current pic on a boat, and a delivery room photo with Lili as a newborn.

“Four years ago today she came into our lives – and each day is brighter and better because of it,” she captioned the post in part.

In another post on Wednesday, the “With Love, Meghan” host shared a snap of Prince Harry holding their infant.

“The sweetest bond to watch unfold,” she captioned the post. “Daddy’s little girl and favourite adventurer.”
