The Prince and Princess of Wales shocked commuters Wednesday morning as they took the train to Wales for their royal trip.

Prince William, 42, and Kate Middleton, 43, who are known for taking royal motorcades or helicopters for royal engagements, decided to take a different route for their Wales trip ahead of the national holiday, St. David’s Day.

People were seen taking pictures and videos of the royal couple as they walked through a train station in Cardiff, Wales.

Kate Middleton was dressed in a vibrant red coat, one of the colours of the Welsh flag. In a video posted to the royals’ official Instagram account, the Princess was seen waving at commuters as they walked by.

“Not the only one who has a bounce in the step back inside. By train to Pontypridd, South Wales” one X user wrote while sharing the video.

“William and Catherine took the train to Wales this morning,” another commented.

After arriving in Cardiff, Wales on Wednesday, the royal couple made their way to The Welsh Cake Shop in Pontypridd where they were taught how to make traditional Welsh cakes by shop owner Theresa Conner.

Pontypridd was a key focus during their Wales trip because the town was severely damaged by Storm Bert and Storm Darraugh in November and December of last year. Many homes and businesses were flooded due to the storms, and the town experienced widespread power outages, according to local reports.

“It’s lovely and an honour for Pontypridd to have a visit. They are coming to visit Pontypridd where a lot of people have been affected here by the floods,” Theresa Conner told PEOPLE. “For them to do so will help boost people in the town and raise our profile.”

The pair were also caught sharing a cheeky moment.

As they baked traditional Welsh cakes, Will joked: “How dirty can you be? Flour everywhere?”

The couple then proceeded to giggle as they got stuck into work at Pontypridd shop - which has served tasty snacks to locals for more than 25 years.

The Cardiff outing marked the second joint royal engagement of the year for Prince William and Princess Kate, after Kate revealed in January she was resuming royal duties following her remission from cancer.
