In a move that no one saw coming, the Princess of Wales stunned millions by opening the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest final with a touching piano performance tribute to Ukraine.

Princess Catherine played piano alongside last year’s Ukrainian winners, the Kalush Orchestra, performing their winning entry Stefania in a stunning opening sequence for the grand final.

The beautiful sequence was filmed earlier this month in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle.

Kensington Palace released a set of images of the Princess recording the session, dressed in a blue silk one-shoulder dress and seated at a black grand piano.

In one close-up image, Catherine could be seen smiling as she sat down at the piano.

Another shot showed a more wide angle of the room, with the Princess of Wales at the piano looking out a window.

It comes after the Prince and Princess pair released a slick Netflix-style video offering a rare behind-the-scenes look into their family life during the Coronation celebrations.

The high quality documentary showed shots of the family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

It also showed their involvement in the Big Help Out event which was Prince Louis’ first official engagement.

Prince George, 9, tried some archery before the family posed for a photograph with volunteers.

The video ended with the Coronation Concert, where Prince William told King Charles in front of the crowd of 20,000 fans at Windsor that they were “so proud” of him.

The Prince added he personally was there to serve the King and his country.

The video included performances from music stars including Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Take That.

Brand and Culture expert Nick Ede told the Mail Online the video was a clear move to rebrand the Royal Family’s image.

The video emerged after a friend of Meghan Markle posted a new photo of the Duchess and praised her ahead of Mother’s Day celebrations in the US.

Ms Markle, who is understood to be celebrating the day with Prince Harry and their children Prince Archie, 3, and Princess Lilibet, 1, was described as “incredibly nurturing and warm” by her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen, a former model and businesswoman.

As a co-founder of Alliance of Moms — a campaign supporting pregnant and parenting teenagers in foster care, Ms McKee Zafjen shared an image of them together wearing T-shirts with the words “community, motherhood”.

In an Instagram post, she wrote: “As Mother’s Day approaches, I can’t help but think of my own #commUNITY Motherhood. I instantly think of you Meg.

“How incredibly nurturing and warm and open you are. What an incredible friend and mother. I’m truly in awe of you and I am so grateful you are part of my #commUNITYofmotherhood.

“You are always the first to say yes and support those you love.

“You are a fierce advocate for those who are in need.

“Thank you for joining this year’s campaign to support LA’s expectant and parenting foster youth, which helps provide critical services, education, resources and advocacy so they can build a better future for themselves and their families.”
