Princess Catherine has dazzled fans with a triumphant appearance at Wimbledon.
The much-loved royal, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, waved to the crowd as she received a standing ovation on her arrival to Centre Court for the women’s singles final.
It was the second year in a row she received such a greeting.
Catherine was later seen consoling American Amanda Anisimova, who was left in tears after she was demolished by Poland’s Iga Swiatek in just 57 minutes.
The brutal match was the first time a woman has won a final at Wimbledon without dropping a game since 1911.
Arriving for the game, Catherine, who is slowly returning to public duties following her cancer diagnosis, looked radiant in a Self Portrait cream belted top and flowing skirt.
She also donned a green and purple bow to mark her role as patron of The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
As she took her seat, she shook the hand of six-time Wimbledon champion Billie Jean King.
Ahead of her appearance, the royal was told “don’t be nervous” and to “take deep breaths” by eight-year-old Lydia Lowe.
The little girl was at Wimbledon representing the Dan Maskell Trust and was responsible for the coin toss for the wheelchair final.
During a touching exchange, Catherine asked Lydia, who overcame a brain injury and had to learn how to walk again, what it meant to her to perform the coin toss, The Telegraph reported.
When the Princess asked Lydia if she had any advice for her ahead of her own appearance, the child replied: “Don’t be nervous (and) take deep breaths.”
Catherine responded: “Take deep breaths, okay, I’ll remember that. Thank you.”
The kind-hearted royal later consoled American Amanda Anisimova, who lost 6-0 6-0 to Polish player Iga Swiatek.
In a press conference after the match, Anisimova said of Princess Catherine: “It was such an honour to meet her.
“I wasn’t sure if she was going to come out today, if she was going to be there, so it was just really nice to see her. Yeah, she definitely had a few things to say that were making me emotional again.
“But yeah, she was really kind – and she told me to keep my head high and I don’t really want to reveal everything she said to me, but I also spoke to her again after the match, because I passed by her. She had all the best to say to me.”
The royal’s appearance comes as she continues to find the right balance as she fully returns to public engagements after her cancer treatment last year.
