Netflix star Dylan Minnette reveals why he stopped acting

He shot to fame on the smash hit series ‘13 Reasons Why’, and now, Dylan Minnette has revealed why he stepped away from Hollywood.

US actor Dylan Minnette has revealed why he made the decision to stop acting.

The Netflix star, 27, shot to notoriety on the hugely popular 2017 series 13 Reasons Why, in which he played Clay Jensen for four seasons.

Minnette has only starred in two productions since the show wrapped in 2020: Thriller film Scream and the Amanda Seyfried-led miniseries The Dropout, which were both released in 2022.

Now, he’s revealed why he’s since taken a step back from Hollywood productions.

“I was fortunate to find success in [acting],” Minnette said on the YouTube channel, Zach Sang Show.

“I was on 13 Reasons Why and it was really popular and definitely reached a peak in what I’ve had in acting. But it also started to feel like a bit of a job.

“And I was in a very fortunate position, it was always fun for me, always really inspiring, but then it was just starting to feel like just a job.”

Minnette, who had been acting since he was 8, went on to say he was now focused on his alternative rock band Wallows, which began releasing music independently in 2017 before signing a deal with Atlantic Records the following year.

The actor formed the band with his mates in 2011, in which performs vocals and guitar, with Braeden Lemasters also on vocals and guitar and Cole Preston on guitar and drums.

“I feel like I’m in a position now where I can just kind of like do that [music] for a while and get this the farthest it can be,” he continued.

“The only way that’s gonna happen is if I put my 100 perc ent time and energy into it and take it very seriously and show the world that we all take this very seriously.

“This is a real band, we’re going to do real band things.”

However, Minnette didn’t rule out a return to the screen down the track.

“I do feel like I have something to give, and that’s probably acting. … I feel like I’m starting to feel inspiration for that again,” he said.

“At some point, when we’ve fulfilled our Wallows duties and we’re all ready to take a break as a band, that’s when I’ll have the perfect inspiration to do something.”
