Actor Gabriel Macht has suited up with his family and left the US – but there is no litigation when it comes to keeping his location private.
“I don’t tell anybody where I live because I like to keep that under wraps,” the actor told People magazine.
The former Suits star, 53, added: “I got out of town and we’re exploring the world.”
Macht took a “long break” from acting to focus on his Brisbane-born wife, actress and model Jacinda Barrett, and their two children — daughter Satine, 17, and son Luca, 10 — after the USA Network series ended in 2019.
“Right before COVID, we wanted to take the kids out of school and homeschool them,” the actor said. “But then we got stuck and so we were in Manhattan. That just wasn’t doing it for us.”
Macht and his family decided the time had come to exit the Big Apple.
“We decided to explore the world, so we left,” he continued. “I grew up in LA and I lived in New York for many, many years. Half of my life on the East Coast, half of my life on the West Coast.”
After starring on “Suits” for all nine seasons from 2011 to 2019, Macht has taken on a new career path: the role of creative partner and executive shareholder in Bear Fight Whiskey.
“I’ve done some commercial work as a brand ambassador, but I wanted to be a partner in a company that made sense,” he told the outlet.
“Harvey — he’s really a Macallan guy, but I’m not a Macallan guy. I’m a Bear Fight guy,” Macht said of his former character, lawyer Harvey Specter.
“I’m the guy that’s just looking for something that tastes great, that’s affordable, is approachable,” he noted. “And I said, if we’re going to do this, I really don’t want to make this about Harvey. It’s not top shelf … It’s an everyman drink. I’m more of an everyman than I am Harvey.”
But Macht has no objection to joining his Suits family in the upcoming spin-off, Suits LA.
“I had very little interest in coming back to work as an actor right now, because I spent so much time [doing it] and this was my time to really raise my kids and to do this creative stuff, like Bear Fight,” he revealed.
After mulling it over, returning to reprise his role as Harvey made “sense” for his family. Macht said he will also be able to “sort of pass the baton to Stephen [Amell] and the cast in LA.”
He stated: “We’re trying to figure out how to incorporate Bear Fight into [an episode].”
Although no details about his character’s life six years later have been revealed, Macht shared where he thinks the lawyer would be today,
“He’s only doing pro bono work,” the Hollywood vet told E! News in November. “I think he works for the people.”
And some things never change, as Macht thinks Harvey also has more time to focus on his interests.
As he put it: “He’s a distiller and he tastes whiskeys.”
