Nicole Kidman stole the show at the 2025 Met Gala, leading a dazzling line-up of Aussie stars on fashion’s biggest night.
This year’s theme is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, which is bringing in a stark contrast of fashions to the red carpet after last year’s floral-themed ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ theme.
Kidman unveiled a gorgeous new hairdo and was looking sleek in a midi-length black dress by Balenciaga. She sent the press pack into a frenzy, blowing kisses to the cameras and doing a twirl.
Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel styled the “Babygirl” star’s locks in a side part with long cascading bangs framing one side of her face.
While the chop dramatically changed Kidman’s looks, it’s likely just temporary as the Oscar-winning actress is known to wear wigs — to varying degrees of believability — in nearly every project she’s done.
Kidman said she told Anna Wintour she wanted something “tailor-made for me” and that the Vogue editor said that was what the theme was all about.
The Aussie actress said she was inspired by all of the “gorgeous, gorgeous dandies” and the women who supported them.
“It’s lovely to just celebrate fashion and couture and tailoring and particularly tonight the tailoring because there’s all those people behind the scenes who do all that work,” she said.
Her Balenciaga look reportedly took 700 hours to create.
Last week, Kidman posted a daring Instagram video, posing on a French balcony in nothing but a black bodysuit and her flowing blonde locks.
The haute couture fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute is the biggest spectacle in fashion and has delivered iconic red carpet moments including Rihanna’s elaborate 2015 look by Chinese designer Guo Pei and Cardi B’s regal pregnancy look in 2018.
Aussie model and skincare mogul Miranda Kerr was the epitome of elegance in a unique tuxedo-inspired black gown by Dior.
Meanwhile, Aussie superstar Sarah Snook brought in drama to the blue carpet as she donned a structured look by label AnOnlyChild.
The Succession actress is currently selling out shows on Broadway, playing 26 characters in the one-woman show The Picture of Dorian Gray.
