Controversial rapper Azealia Banks has revealed that she cast her vote for Donald Trump at this week’s US election, despite previously publicly announcing her intention to vote for Kamala Harris.
And Banks appeared to take great pleasure in revealing her true vote, tweeting: “Lmao I lied, I voted for Trump yesterday,” alongside a photo of her ballot paper.
Earlier this week, Banks had surprised her fans when she announced she’d be voting for Ms Harris at the election. “I will be Voting For Kamala Harris tomorrow because Elon Musk belongs no where near American Politics. The End,” she wrote.
Musk has developed a close friendship with Mr Trump and was reportedly with him as the election results rolled in yesterday.
Banks has longstanding beef with Musk, dating back to 2018 when Banks detailed a bizarre few days allegedly spent inside the Tesla billionaire’s LA mansion, waiting to collaborate with his then-girlfriend, musician Grimes.
At the time, Banks publicly dubbed Grimes a “dirty-sneaker-inbred-out of the woods” and called Musk a “trash arse beta male”.
But those who’ve been following Banks in recent months shouldn’t be too surprised at her political leanings: In July she was spotted in the crowd at one of Donald Trump’s rallies in Miami, Florida.
Banks isn’t the only celebrity who’s revealed they voted for Mr Trump at this election.
Actress Alison Lohman, best known for the 2009 horror film Drag Me To Hell, was met with a mixed reaction when she announced on X that “this is first time I’ll be voting for a republican president,” revealing that she was casting a vote for Trump to “live in a safer and healthier country.”
After a backlash from some fans, Lohman tweeted that “the attacks are not surprising, unfortunately. I hope you find peace and love. after you deal with a home invasion & health issues, you focus on the things that matter. the ones who said: ‘you do you’.”
Many high-profile celebrities had thrown their support behind Ms Harris for this election, and some have already spoken out to express their disappointment at the Democrats’ defeat.
Actress Christina Applegate took to X to vent, revealing that her daughter had been “sobbing” over the result and asking Trump supporters to unfollow her.
Rapper Cardi B had a simple message for those Americans who’d voted for Trump: “I hate ya’ll bad”.
The Nanny star Fran Drescher wrote on Instagram that her role as SAG-AFTRA union president had taught her “that humans are easily manipulated thru fear. Most humans will follow in fear. Most will divide quickly into tribes. Most lack empathy. Most are not critical thinkers.”
Vice President Harris today officially conceded defeat to Mr Trump, urging her supporters to keep fighting for the policy areas she built her campaign on.
“The light of America’s promise will always burn bright,” she said. “As long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”
