Miley Cyrus announces engagement, opens up about divorce from Hemsworth

Aussie hunk Liam Hemsworth’s memory was front of mind for Miley Cyrus as she reflected on her marriage breakdown amid news she is engaged to boyfriend Maxx Morando.

Miley Cyrus reflected on her divorce from Australian actor Liam Hemsworth while gushing over her fiance, Maxx Morando.

When asked about her new engagement, the Flowers singer said that where she is in her life now has some similarities to the forthcoming movie Avatar: Fire and Ash, whose soundtrack features Cyrus’ new song, Dream as One.

“I think it’s very timely and very aligned with Avatar’s theme because it is about starting over and building again,” she said in a video shared online.

“After I lost my house in the fires, that wasn’t all that I lost and I really went down to kind of the ashes and rebuilt my life personally, physically — you know, my home. So the themes of love here and relationships and being there for each other,” Cyrus added.

The pop star said she began noticing similarities in her life and the James Cameron-directed film while she was at the premiere this week.

“I didn’t even think about it really until I was at the premiere last night watching the film and going, ‘This is kind of art imitating life and life imitating art.’ You never know which one comes first,” she said.

“The relationships, the love there, the starting again, the rebuilding and somewhat of being a phoenix that really resonates with me and really is what this relationship for me is all about,” Cyrus added.

“It’s about starting again and rebuilding from … the consciousness of a more grown adult person of what I want this time around is totally different from maybe what I wanted when I was younger.”

Cyrus, 33, and Hemsworth, 35, dated for over a decade and secretly tied the knot in December 2018.

However, less than a year later, the Wrecking Ball singer shocked Hollywood and fans alike when she announced they were separating.

The Hunger Games actor filed for divorce days later, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the split.

By January 2020, Hemsworth and Cyrus’ divorce was finalised.

While the former Disney star has remained mum about the demise of their relationship, she called their whirlwind marriage a “f***ing disaster” while performing at Lollapalooza in 2022.

Hemsworth is now engaged to model Gabriella Brooks, whom the actor has been dating since late 2019.

The couple initially sparked engagement rumours when they walked the red carpet together for Monday’s world premiere of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” in Los Angeles. (Her song “Dream As One” is featured in the movie.)

Cyrus, 33, and the fellow musician, 27, posed for pictures together as she made sure her showstopping diamond set in a thick gold band was front and centre in every shot.

LA jewellery designer Jacquie Aiche was later confirmed by her rep, Francesca Consulting, to have custom-made the ring.

Francesca Consulting also shared details of the bauble, noting that it’s a cushion-cut stone set in a “chunky” 14-karat yellow gold band.

For Monday night’s outing, Cyrus stunned in a black strapless sequin gown with a structured bodice, ruffled skirt and train, while Morando looked handsome in a classic black suit and white collared shirt.
Just a few hours after the couple walked the red carpet together, Maxx’s dad, Dan Morando, shared a congratulatory post on his social media — further confirming the news.

While posting photos from a private celebration at what seemed to be a sushi restaurant, he gave fans a close-up look at Cyrus’s ring.

He also shared photos of the couple hugging and smiling as they celebrated their engagement with friends and family, captioning the post with a mix of emojis including a heart and champagne bottle.

Cyrus — who was married to Australian actor Liam Hemsworth from December 2018 to January 2020 — was first pictured wearing the ring in mid-November, according to Deuxmoi.

The singer-songwriter also showed off the bauble while celebrating her birthday last weekend.

Holding her hands up to her face while marvelling at her birthday cake, Cyrus captioned a two-photo Instagram post, “33 is already burning bright thanks to the warmth of your sweet birthday wishes.
