Abbie Chatfield hits back at critics of her very public romance

Abbie Chatfield is loved-up with Peking Duck star Adam Hyde – and the FBoy Island host is not going to apologise for it.

Abbie Chatfield on why she 'hard launched' her new boyfriend

Abbie Chatfield strips down to her undies in a striking shoot for this week’s issue of Stellar Magazine – and the interview inside is just as revealing as the cover pic, as the Aussie star dishes on her new relationship.

Former Bach star, now FBoy Island host Chatfield went public recently with her new relationship with boyfriend Adam Hyde, one-half of Australian electro duo Peking Duck.

Since they “hard launched,” the pair have been very public, with Hyde appearing on his girlfriend’s podcast to discuss all the details of their romance.

Chatfield told Stellar she knew their relationship had its critics. In fact, she hit back recently when one follower on social media accused her of being “manic,” advising her: “This feels like too much too soon.”

“I made a video saying, ‘Well, I’ve known him for two years. We’ve been dating for six months, getting closer. We were friends for two years before then, so I’m not sure how you think you know it’s too soon.’

“It’s like people not only want more from you, but they also think they know everything,” Chatfield said.

“It’s this contradictory feeling of: we know everything about your life, but also, what are you hiding? I’m not actually hiding anything. I just don’t have a GoPro on my head.”

It’s not too long since Chatfield made a very different pronouncement to Stellar.

In a May 2023 interview, she declared that she was not keen on dating publicly again – a big call for someone who first found fame on the dating series The Bachelor.

So what changed?

“I guess with Adam it’s different, because I trust the strength of our relationship,” she said.

“It isn’t like other people I’ve had flings with. And this is gonna sound a bit wanky, but he’s had a bigger career than me. I don’t think he’s using me for anything. He’s successful in his own right. I think I’m cool for being with him, not the other way around.”

Chatfield might be playing herself down there, because one could argue she’s the more famous person in the relationship; she’s arguably a bigger name among young women and reality TV fanatics.

In fact, when news of their relationship broke, Hyde found himself referred to simply as “Abbie Chatfield’s new boyfriend” in a few tabloid headlines.

She admitted the pair had shared some laughs about that particular moniker.

“I think the response to being called Abbie Chatfield’s boyfriend is funny, because men are finally seeing how women are spoken about in the media constantly. They’re outraged that young women – who are my core demographic – would call Adam that. But I’m sure those same men will call women WAGs very freely, and say so-and-so is so-and-so’s wife or girlfriend.”
