American supermodel Gigi Hadid was arrested for marijuana possession while on a holiday in the Cayman Islands.
Hadid, 28, and a friend touched down at the tropical destination on a private plane from the US on July 10 before officials searched their luggage and found “ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja” in their possession, local outlet Cayman Marl Road first reported.
The celebrity and her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy were arrested on “suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja”.
The quantities were reportedly “relatively small and were seemingly for personal consumption”. While marijuana is legal in Grand Cayman, it is illegal to bring the substance in from another country.
The friends were taken to the Prisoner Detention Center, where they were eventually released on bail.
During a July 12 court appearance, Hadid and her friend pleaded guilty and were fined $1000. No conviction was recorded and they are not facing any additional charges.
Since the incident, Hadid and her friends have kicked off their summer getaway, sharing pictures and videos of their travels.
On Wednesday morning, the supermodel dumped a bunch of videos and photos looking sexy under the caption “All’s well that ends well”.
On July 14, Hadid took to Instagram to show off two bikini pictures, one of which included a temporary dragon tattoo on her leg.
Hadid commented about the black and white body art by writing in the caption, “mornin!” with a green dragon emoji. She shared another look at the design through her Instagram Story, writing, “Am I in my girl w the dragon tattoo era?!”
In a statement to E News! a representative for Hadid said she had been “travelling with marijuana purchased legally in New York City with a medical license” when the incident took place.
“Gigi was travelling with marijuana purchased legally in New York City with a medical license,” her representative said.
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
Similar materials were found in the bags of Leah Nicole McCarthy, another member of Hadid’s group, Cayman Marl Road reported.
