Game of Thrones star Kit Harington’s heartbreaking confession

Game of Thrones and Industry star Kit Harington has shared a wild confession about his behaviour before he became sober.

Kit Harington feels he's finally being recognised for his acting 'talent', rather than his good looks

Kit Harington has opened up about his mental health struggles, revealing that at his lowest he felt suicidal and would insult himself in the mirror.

Harington, 37, has shared that he dealt with his own personal issues behind the scenes when at the height of his fame, including a secret battle with alcohol.

He told GQ Hype: “Because before getting sober, I would stare in the mirror and call myself a c***. I’d hate myself. I would literally despise myself and not be proud of anything I’d done. I couldn’t be proud.”

Harington eventually checked himself into rehab while the final season of Game of Thrones was airing around the world.

“So the fact that I am proud of getting sober is in and of itself a mark of being an entirely different person,” he shared.

“And now, every set I step onto, whatever work I do, I’m proud of, because I know I put everything into it. Whereas before I had this huge monkey on my back that was just, like, weighing me down. So yeah, the whole nature of being proud of myself is a relatively new prospect for me.”

But the actor also knows that he has to take each day as it comes, but talking about his journey helps him.

“I might have one massive, messy, chaotic relapse, and I hope that doesn’t happen, but I think I protect myself by talking about it,” he admitted.

As for his experience on GOT, playing character Jon Snow from 2011 until 2019 had its challenges.

Because of the instant fame, Harington “tried to project this image of utter sophistication and coolness about what I was doing but genuinely being sort of terrified about everything.”

Having millions of eyes on him that watched his every move caused him to go on a downward spiral by the end of his eight-season run.

“That is a dangerous rabbit hole to fall down because you find all of the bad stuff that people are saying as well as the nice stuff,” he said.
