Legendary comedian Dana Carvey revealed tragic personal news today, the death of his adult son Dex.

“Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old,” a statement from Wayne’s World star Carvey and his wife Paula began.

“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, film making, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.”

The couple said their late son “loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too.” but “most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

“Dex was a beautiful person,” they continued. “His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.”

The statement ended by offering prayers for those “struggling with addiction.”
And as Carvey’s statement began to be picked up by online news outlets, he used social media to give his fans a bit more of an understanding of his son’s life.

“F**k the tabloids. This is my boy,” he tweeted, alongside a photo of his son smiling.

He shared another photo of himself and Dex, also a comedian:

TMZ reported that Dex died in Los Angeles on Wednesday night after his girlfriend called emergency services. He was found unresponsive, locked in a bathroom, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dex had opened for his father during Dana’s 2016 Netflix special, Straight White Male, 60.

Best known in the US for his seven seasons as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1986 to 1993, Carvey was famed for his hilarious characters, including the “Church lady”, and his impressions of then-President George H.W. Bush.

After SNL, he became a globally famous star thanks to his role as Garth in the two Wayne’s World films.

Carvey and Paula have one other child – son Thomas, 30, also a comedian.
