Two Aussie expats living in London have shared a hilarious encounter they had with Irish actor Paul Mescal.

Former Melburnians and TikTok influencer duo Bel & Em revealed they were headed home at 3am on early Sunday morning when their Uber was hit by a Lime bike being ridden by the Gladiator II star himself.

“This is why you should always go out. When in doubt, go out,” Bel said while recounting the incident in a TikTok video as Em revealed, “Paul Mescal rode his Lime bike into our Uber. That’s not a joke. I said, ‘Hi Paul!’”

Bel explained that “at 3am no less, there was a big thud in the back of our Uber and our driver yelled at him.”

In the video, the actor could be heard saying, “If there’s damage, I’ll happily pay whatever.” But the duo insisted, “Don’t worry, Paul. I promise you there’s no damage. We saw you in Streetcar [Named Desire] and you were amazing. We love you.”

Coincidentally, the incident happened when the actor was riding home after performing on stage at London’s Noel Coward Theatre in the production A Streetcar Named Desire.

Until February 22, Mescal will be hitting the stage on weeknights, with an added matinee performance on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Bike-riding isn’t the only mode of transport the actor uses to get around London town.

While most celebrities opt to get chauffeured around, Mescal likes to keep it real and take the train.

Last week, the 29-year-old was spotted riding the Tube, London’s underground train network.

Wearing a beige jacket over a black hoodie, the actor – who was nominated for an Oscar in 2023 for his role in the drama Aftersun – looked unlike the dapper Hollywood star he’s become.

He kept his head low and covered with a baseball cap as he listened to music on his phone with commuters unaware there was a big-name star on the Piccadilly Line.

Speaking to news.com.au back in October while in Sydney to promote Gladiator II, Mescal said that he was still trying to wrap his head around his new-found fame thanks to the movie.

“There’s no way to really put words on it without kind of sounding disingenuous and be like, ‘Oh, it’s amazing,’ because it doesn’t serve the feeling,” he said when asked how he felt about his life-changing role.

“It’s so big! I had a big ‘pinch myself’ moment … at this [Sydney] premiere [because] this is the longest plane journey I can get on to be away from home, it’s 22 hours, and you arrive out here and people are coming out to see you and see the film. It’s a really profound feeling.”
