Thousands of people will have the chance to dig their toes into the red earth of outback NSW at a new three-day music festival.
The Mundi Mundi Bash will be held annually in Broken Hill, with the inaugural event running from August 19-21 this year.
It will be headed by a stellar line-up of 20 acts including rock legends Paul Kelly, Tim Finn, John Williamson, Kate Ceberano and Shannon Noll.
Multi-ARIA-award-winning performer Kate Ceberano said the festival — which will be the biggest event ever staged in outback NSW — will include a jam-packed program of outdoor activities including a Nutbush dance-off.
“I’m thrilled to be invited to this auspicious launch for the first Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash. I’m sure the event will become a yearly pilgrimage for lovers of live music.
“It will be such a great opportunity to be with the families, [their pets] ha ha, under the beautiful starry NSW skies of Broken Hill, in the cradle of the Barrier Ranges on the Mundi Mundi Plains. Nature at its best! And great Australian artists will provide the soundtrack to this epic experience.”
Director and founder of the Outback Music Festival Group Greg Donovan said the festival was a long time coming.
“Like all event organisers we’ve had the year from hell with Covid. However looking at the silver lining, 2020 has given us the time we needed to get the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash off the ground.
“It’s an event we’ve been planning and looking at for several years now, but with the unprecedented success and growth of the Birdsville Big Red Bash we haven’t had the capacity to stage a new start-up event.
With BRB cancelled for 2020 we decided to take the leap of faith and use the time to get this new outback festival off the ground … We couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come for both events.”
The historic Mundi Mundi region is famous as the set for the post-apocalyptic world in the opening scenes of Mad Max 2 and in scenes for Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
