He is a regular guy who hangs out in Cabramatta, eats Vietnamese soup and lifts the occasional weight.

But now Sydney personal trainer Thien Nguyen can expect a little more luck with the ladies after being crowned Cleo Magazine’s Bachelor of the Year.

“I’m just getting everyone to poke me,” the 28-year-old aspiring actor told AAP after his win on Wednesday night.

“I feel like I’m in dreamland.” Mr Nguyen, who runs a mobile personal training business, beat 29 other bachelors to claim the title, which was decided by around 300,000 readers.

While he admits he always thought it would be “cool” to be a Cleo bachelor, being thrust into the spotlight means he will have to overcome his shyness and get used to the attention.

“I’m just a regular guy that goes to Cabramatta, eats pho, Vietnamese egg noodle soup,” he says.

“I’m really just a simple guy that likes to have his food and likes to lift a few weights here and there and just likes to help people as much as I can.”

Vietnam-born Mr Nguyen, who now lives in Darlinghurst in Sydney, says after a year of singledom he may even score a date or two.

“I feel like girls will definitely give me a little bit more attention, I’ve been a bachelor for too long.”

Ultimately he says he wants to use his position to be a role model for youths that have lost their way.

Thien beat Triple J Hottest 100 winner Vance Joy, Sydney Swans player Tom Derickx and Home and Away star Nic Westaway.

Thien takes the title from last year’s winner, lifeguard and Bondi Rescue star Trent Maxwell.

Previous winners include Masterchef’s Hayden Quinn, Olympic swimmer and Dancing with the Stars contestant Eamon Sullivan and House Husbands actor Firass Dirani.
