JESSICA Chastain has opened up about her younger sister’s tragic suicide, revealing the experience “completely changed” her.

The actress’s sibling, Juliet, took her own life in 2003 after a lengthy battle with depression.

“It completely changed the person I am. A movie, Oscars, a dress, if someone thinks I’m stupid ... I realised nothing is that important,” The Help star told the January edition of InStyle magazine.

Chastain’s grounded attitude has served her well in Hollywood.

The 37-year-old made her feature film debut in the 2008 independent movie Jolene, but became a household name in 2011 after starring in seven flicks, including The Tree Of Life with Brad Pitt.

She recalled that when she was being considered for that role, she was told “no one would ever cast an unknown opposite Brad Pitt”.

“I knew the second Brad signed on it was a game-changer for my career. Then I was just scared I was going to get fired. It wasn’t until after a week of shooting that I started to relax,” Chastain told InStyle.

(She ended up taking home several international acting awards for her turn as Mrs O’Brien.)

The flame-haired beauty is currently dating Italian fashion executive for Montcler, Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, however she said she would never date an actor.

“I made sure when I started that I was known for my work, not for whom I was dating,” she told the mag.

“Acting is all about being open to another person, and to date an actor, it just confuses it, because how do you even know if it’s real?”
