DAMN you Oscars producers! Why didn’t you say yes?
Will Ferrell has revealed that he offered to co-host the 2012 Academy Awards with Zach Galifianakis after Eddie Murphy pulled out just two months before the show.
Speaking to The Huffington Post, the comedian said he got his manager to call up the awards show’s producer, Brian Grazer, to pitch his random idea.
“We will host the Oscars if you do a campaign that you can’t find an Oscars host up until the last second,” said Ferrell about his idea.
“It’s going to be a surprise and we’ll walk out on stage. The whole premise of our hosting was that we were asked at the last second. So we’re always flustered. We don’t know the jokes. We don’t know where the cameras are. We do the entire show as if it’s unrehearsed.”
Unfortunately the producers said no because they wanted to be able to advertise the show’s host in the lead up to the event.
“We gave them gold and ... they’ve got to be willing to be unconventional,” said a disappointed Will Ferrell.
The two funny men, who had just completed their movie The Campaign at the time, did go on to present an award at the ceremony, which was hosted by Billy Crystal.
