Golden Globe Awards 2024: Who is nominated
Some of Australia’s biggest stars are in the running for top gongs at the Golden Globes, as awards host and comedian Jo Koy promises a “fun show”.

Margot Robbie’s Barbie is tipped to take home a slew of awards at the revamped Golden Globes on Monday, having received the most nominations.
The fun feminist satire and global box office hit has been nominated for nine awards including best comedy, as well as acting categories for Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Barbie, which was 2024’s top-grossing movie having earned than $1.4 billion ($A2.13bn) globally, also scored three best song nominations and recognition for its writer-director Greta Gerwig.
The other half of the successful Barbenheimer duo, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer – which hit cinemas on the same day as Barbie – netted eight nominations including best drama and best director.
Australians Elizabeth Debicki and Sarah Snook have also been nominated in the awards, which celebrates both film and television.
Debicki was nominated for best supporting female actor on a television series, while Snook was nominated for best female action in a drama television series for her role in Succession.
Succession topped the drama section with nine nominations.
It comes in a pivotal year of transformation for the Golden Globes, which were once a popular forerunner to the Oscars.
This year’s Golden Globes host, comedian Jo Koy, pledged a “fun show” as he rolled out the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel ahead of the event.
Top US television network CBS has stepped in to become the new home of the Globes, after long-term host NBC ended its deal to broadcast the event.
CBS is hoping for better ratings, after the 2023 Globes slumped to a historic low of just 6.3 million viewers, even as other shows such as the Oscars recovered from pandemic viewership slumps.
The awards show came under fire in February 2021, when the Los Angeles Times reported that there were zero Black members within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the voting organisation behind the awards.
The show’s lack of diversity wasn’t the only controversy surrounding the Golden Globes.
In 2018, Oscar-winning actor Brendan Fraser claimed that former HFPA president Philip Berk sexually assaulted him in the summer of 2003, while at a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel — an alleged incident Berk has denied.
The 81st Golden Globes ceremony will take place in Beverly Hills on Sunday, January 7 local time.
Australians can stream the coverage live on Stan from 11am AEDT, with the red carpet followed by the awards ceremony at 12pm.
