Aussie TV stars Sarah Snook, Elizabeth Debicki hoping to follow up Golden Globe wins with an Emmy Awards

Aussie TV star Sarah Snook will be hoping to add an Emmy to her recent Golden Globe win for Succession, while first-time nominee Elizabeth Debicki is also up for an award for The Crown.

Aussie television stars Sarah Snook and Elizabeth Debicki will be hoping to add Emmy Awards to their recent Golden Globe wins for Succession and The Crown, respectively, but both are facing stiff competition.

The 75th annual Emmy Awards, which will be hosted by Anthony Anderson on Tuesday Australian time, comes after a delay due to the highly publicised strike action late last year.

Snook is nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her celebrated performance in the critically acclaimed Succession.

She is competing against New Zealand actor Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).

At the Golden Globes, Snook took out the award for best performance by a female actor in a television drama series.

In her acceptance speech, Snook said Succession had changed her life.

“Everybody in it is amazing. The cast, the crew were fantastic, this was a team effort. It was always a team and that was what made the show amazing to be a part of,” she said.

Debicki won a Golden Globe for a supporting role on television in The Crown where she played the late Princess Diana.

In her speech, Debicki said: “This is just astonishing to me.”

Her Emmy nomination is also for supporting actress in a drama series.

The first-time nominee faces competition from The White Lotus actresses Jennifer Coolidge, Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza and Simona Tabasco, as well as Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul) and J. Smith-Cameron (Succession).

Fellow Aussie actor Murray Bartlett scored two nominations, including one as a supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for Welcome to Chippendales.

The other was as a guest actor in a drama series for The Last of Us, but he already lost to Nick Offerman who appeared on the same show.

Anna Torv was also nominated as a guest actress in a drama series for her performance in The Last of Us but lost out to

Storm Reid for the same program.

Succession leads the way with a whopping 27 nominations, followed by The Last of Us with 24, The White Lotus just shy at 23 and Ted Lasso pulling 21 nods.
