Cold Chisel great Ian Moss, classic rockers The Screaming Jets and even musical poet Paul Kelly have been revealed as ‘Swifties.’

Taylor Swift’s pop superpower has seen some of Australia’s most successful and celebrated rock artists fall under her charms.

Eight Aussie music greats have recorded cover versions of some of Swift’s greatest hits as part of a Triple M ‘versions’ Swift celebration to coincide with her Australian tour.

Paul Kelly has covered Anti-Hero, The Screaming Jets have recorded We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Sarah McLeod has done her take on Wildest Dreams, Diesel has brought his vibe to This Is Me Trying, Ian Moss has brought his trademark style to Style, Birds of Tokyo have done Blank Space, British India has recorded You’re on Your Own, Kid, and Joe Camilleri with Melbourne Ska Orchestra has given his polish to I Knew You Were Trouble.

The ’versions’ will roll out, one track each weekday, on the Triple M network as of Monday until February 14.

“I make no secret of the fact I am a Taylor Swift fan,” The Screaming Jets Dave Gleeson confessed.

“I think she is an amazing singer and songwriter.

“My wife took my daughter to see her years ago and I wanted my daughter to take a placard that said, ‘my dad wanted to come to the show tonight, but my mum would not let him’. I think she is unreal.

“I thought it would be a bit of fun to have a crack at We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together just because I like that part (lyric) “it’s so exhausting.”

“I hope I don’t lose any Jets fans over this.”

More likely is Gleeson could find a flood of Swift fans checking out the Jets, creating a new sub genre of fans - J-ifties.

“I am sure a lot of people are turning their heads and going what is this Swiftie thing,” he said.

“It (the cover versions project) is just a little tip of the hat because though she is not in our genre, she is certainly an icon that has turned the music world on its head. In a time when people find it hard to sell albums she is selling millions.”
