Aussie brothers branch out of pop band ‘Human Nature’ to pursue new music

Human Nature members Andrew and Mike Tierney are branching out of the pop band to forge their own music path as the Tierney Brothers.

Human Nature celebrates 30 years

From pop band sensation to releasing their own music, these Aussie brothers are ready for something new.

Andrew and Mike Tierney grew up touring as Human Nature for 35 years, but are taking a step into a new direction with their own Tierney Brothers album.

“It’s a nice, creative change and to think of things in a different way. To finally do something just the two of us just feels like there’s a sense of freedom about it, and also a bit of the unknown of whether people will care,” Andrew Tierney told Confidential.

Having formed Human Nature in 1989 with Phil Burton and Toby Allen when the brothers were just 12 and 15, music has been at the core of their lives.

“I guess we haven’t known anything else really, we came out of high school and sort of went straight into making a record and that being part of our lives. I think it’s been interesting to see how much the music industry has changed,” Mike Tierney said.

Now 47 and 50, the Tierneys toured alongside music legends like Celine Dion and Michael Jackson, giving them a childhood that was anything but ordinary.

“We didn’t miss out on childhood but maybe we didn’t party enough as kids, I don’t know, because we were always on the road and we didn’t live the rock and roll kind of frat boy lifestyle. We were kind of very serious about our career at the time,” Andrew said.

“Maybe we didn’t get to have the kind of carefree life that maybe some kids do now.”

While they continue to perform with Human Nature in Las Vegas, their journey into songwriting began four years ago.

“You come to a sort of crossroads, wondering what you should do next and I think that happens a lot within music and I guess that was where we sort of came up with the idea to do a Tierney Brothers record,” Mike said.

Andrew said: “It’s all written by us (the album) and it’s all kind of created by us, and it’s music that we haven’t had to ask or worry if the other two guys don’t like it, we’re just going to do it because we like it.

“It’s more written about our lives, you know, and our stories, and so lyrically, we can kind of speak from that point of view, and it’s very authentic,” he said.

Their album Soundtrack Of My Life will be released February 2025 while they continue to support Human Nature on Tour next March.
