Asher Keddie will be out to win back-to-back Gold Logies after nominations in the popular, or public voted, categories were announced yesterday (Monday).

Keddie, of Offspring fame, will take on a diverse field of Gold contenders including The Block’s Scott Cam as well The Project’s Carrie Bickmore and Home and Away’s Steve Peacocke.

She was also nominated for the peer-voted most outstanding actress award, announced yesterday.

In a slap for the ABC, Essie Davis was nominated for Gold at a time that the future of her hit show Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is under a cloud.

The dark horse nominee Davis was also nominated for the Silver Logie for Most Popular Actress with Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries getting a nod in the Most Popular Drama category.

The ABC is yet to commission Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries for a third series despite it averaging more than 1 million viewers per episode.

Past Gold Logie winner Hamish Blake was snubbed in the top category in favour of his comedy mate Andy Lee.

Cam’s Gold nomination caps a stellar year for The Block. All Stars and Sky High were both nominated for Most Popular Reality Program.

Cam has also been nominated for Silver as Most Popular Presenter — up against Adam Hills, Andy Lee, Carrie Bickmore, and Hamish Blake.

“We work really hard on The Block to try and create some good family viewing,” Cam said after the nominations were revealed.

“Our audience is growing all the time and we’re really happy with the result because we make it up as we go along a bit.”

Keddie has also been nominated alongside Davis for Silver as Most Popular Actress. Other contenders are Julia Morris (House Husbands), Marta Dusseldorp (A Place to Call Home), and Rebecca Gibney (Packed to the Rafters).

Comedian Chris Lilley (Ja’mie: Private School Girl) is set to take on Offspring’s Matthew Le Nevez as well as Home and Away’s Steve Peacocke and Dan Ewing, and Packed to the Rafters’ Hugh Sheridan for Silver as Most Popular Actor.

Most Popular Drama will be a battle between Miss Fisher, Offspring, House Husbands, Home and Away, and Winners & Losers.

Lilley’s Jamie: Private School Girl will take on Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year Asia, The Voice, The Project and The X Factor Australia in the Most Popular Light Entertainment Program category.

Offspring galvanised viewers last year with Nina Proudman’s (Keddie) pregnancy and the death of Dr Patrick Reid (Le Nevez).

WILL JA’MIE WALK AWAY WITH A LOGIE?

That surge in popularity could pay off big-time on Logies night with Sportsbet having Keddie as $2.50 favourite to take gold.

“Asher could well make it a trifecta (Gold, Most Popular Actress, Most Outstanding Actress) this year,” Sporsbet’s Will Byrne says.

“It has been ten straight nominations for her as Outstanding Actress and no wins. Surely TV’s golden girl will get it this year.”

The announcement of the public-voted popular categories comes a day after the nominations in the outstanding, or peer-voted, categories were announced.

The TV Week Logie Awards will screen on Channel 9 on Sunday, April 27 from Melbourne’s Crown Palladium.
