The Little Prince stage show gets limited run at Rooty Hill’s West HQ

An imaginative masterpiece of family-friendly theatre is heading to Broadway, but Western Sydney audiences have a chance to see it first.

After a three-week stint at Rooty Hill’s Coliseum Theatre this month, stage show The Little Prince is heading straight to Broadway.

Based on one of the best-selling and most translated books ever published, The Little Prince is a theatre show filled with dance, aerial acrobatics and groundbreaking video mapping technology that brings the classic adventure story to life.

The stage show mirrors the hugely popular 1943 novel of the same name by French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and tells the story of an aviator lost in the desert who encounters a prince that has flown from one planet to another meeting compelling characters in a vivid dreamlike universe.

Chris Mouron, who is the only speaking voice in the show and plays The Aviator/Narrator, said it was a dream to play the role, having fallen in love with the novel when she was 12-years-old.

“I couldn’t have pictured this in my most amazing of dreams,” she said. “I remember in school we listened to (a recording) of this book and I was so emotional.

“It had this impact on me … the story is this masterpiece that helps you remember the imagination you had as a child.”

Mouron, who is also scriptwriter and co-director of the show, said the production, which played at the Opera House last year as well as in Dubai and Paris, had been a hit not just with adults but children as well.

“The reaction has been exactly the same between (children and adults),” she said.

“It’s a family show but we have been so impressed by the response. You worry about young children but they are so wise, they are so focused on this story.”

Full of praise for the Coliseum Theatre, which opened in December 2019, Mouron said the cast was excited to perform at West HQ.

“We are very excited to come back to Sydney for this new adventure,” she said.

“We didn’t know this area but the theatre is gorgeous and for us it’s the perfect place to present before we go to Broadway.”

The Little Prince opens on January 5 for a limited 3-week run before heading to New York.
