NEW musical She Loves Me won’t just be a dose of pure entertainment for audiences — it will be a slice of educational history as well.

Not so much because it is set in 1930s Hungary but more because the leading characters, who are feuding co-workers by day, fall in love through the pen pal messages they put in a lonely hearts column.

It is based on the stage play Parfumerie, which was adapted into the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan rom-com You’ve Got Mail in 1998.

In an age of Tinder, it’s a refreshing musical and will star Rowan Witt and Caitlin Berry in the lead roles of Georg and Amalia.

“I can already see the connection between them, they sparkle, they laugh and work so well together,” director Erin James said.

“Every song tells an important part of the story and every character has their chance to tell their part of the story.”

* She Loves Me opens at the Hayes Theatre in Potts Point from August 24. Tickets at hayestheatre.com.au
