The war that’s been simmering behind the scenes on the Real Housewives of Sydney escalated on Friday when uber-diva Terry Biviano made a late return to the production, four weeks into the latest season.
The high-maintenance Biviano previously fell out with members of the original RHOS cast after she was introduced to shake things up in season two.
On screen and off, the battlelines were drawn between Biviano and founding Sydney Housewives Krissy Marsh and Nicole Gazal-O’Neil, the only two original Housewives still attached to the show.
Exacerbating the fallout, we hear, was the women’s annoyance at the lengths producers were prepared to go to, to accommodate their fussy new recruit.
According to sources, this included moving locations when the novice Housewife objected to a proposed one and putting up with Biviano’s habitual lateness - both claims those close to Biviano deny.
By the end of season two, tensions had peaked between Biviano and the women who are the wealthiest cast members and didn’t sign up to the program for the money.
According to sources familiar with the feud, Marsh, Gazal-O’Neil and one other housewife presented the show’s producers with an ultimatum; either the former celebrity WAG went or they did.
The impasse gave rise to reports in March that Gazal-O’Neil had not been offered a season three contract but for the past week she has been on-set recording the new series along with Marsh and four returning Housewives from season two: Sally Obermeder, Victoria Montano, Kate Adams and Caroline Gaultier.
It’s Biviano who has been missing.
On Friday, sources claimed contract negotiations between Foxtel and Biviano broke down prior to season three when Biviano failed to return her signed contract — doing herself no favours with producers.
Frustrated by failed negotiations, producers had little option but to proceed without her.
In the weeks that followed, the two parties reconvened and resumed talks, where it was decided Biviano would return mid-season “to set off fireworks”.
On Friday those pyrotechnics had started to hiss and spin.
A production publicist refused to comment when approached.
As this writer has previously reported, 10 years after they bought a Vaucluse home and lodged a DA, Biviano and her husband, retired rugby league star Anthony Minichiello, still haven’t finished the house.
They have denied finances are the problem saying it was due to complaints from neighbours, and hold-ups with council and pandemic-related supply chains.
Last season some scenes were filmed in a property rented by the couple.
