From the outset, the quickie marriage of Sydney socialite Lisa Pongrass to Hollywood film producer John Jacobs had all the hallmarks of a gunshot wedding, albeit with one key difference: at 54, it was unlikely the bride was pregnant.
Yet many wondered why divorcee Pongrass and career bachelor Jacobs were in such a hurry to marry, as they did in December, barely a month after Jacobs announced the couple’s engagement via social media.
“So happy to be engaged to the most wonderful woman in the world … she’s my world,” Jacobs posted to Facebook.
The haste, this column was recently informed, did turn out to be baby-related. An infant was on the way via surrogate.
We were unable to raise Pongrass last week to confirm she and her new husband have now welcomed a much-wanted son.
Pongrass is already mother to 23-year-old daughter Amber, her only child to her ex-husband, Sydney property developer Steven Pongrass.
As we revealed here last week, he last month tied the knot with wife number three, Becky Peach (formerly Davies), the one-time lauded fashion designer of the label Bare.
Jacobs is a film producer whose movies include comedy hits Anger Management starring Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler, Blades Of Glory starring Will Ferrell, and Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg, the latter two both spawning successful franchises.
He is also a frequent collaborator of Hollywood star Seth McFarlane and served as a longtime consulting producer on US TV series Family Guy.
The couple married in New York in a private ceremony in December before heading to Palm Beach for the holiday season.
Images posted to social media by Jacobs show the statuesque Pongrass dressed in a conservative white lace sheath and carrying a bouquet of white lilies.
“Beginning of our lives together,” Jacobs, aged about 50, captioned the image.
He previously posted that he was happy to have found “the most wonderful woman in the world … she’s my world”.
Pongrass made headlines in Sydney two decades ago when she threw her support behind Rene Rivkin’s former chauffeur Gordon Wood when he stood trial for the murder of his partner Caroline Byrne after the model was found at the bottom of The Gap, Watsons Bay, in 1995. Wood was initially convicted and served three years before being acquitted in 2012.
As one-time fashion magazine assistant editor Pongrass previously told this newspaper, she lived in the same Potts Point building as Wood and Byrne in the 1990s, in the years before she married her first husband, and believed the couple were “deeply in love”.
Pongrass, who it was once claimed had an association with Prince Albert of Monaco, has rebooted her career since moving to the US and separating from her first husband.
She today is founder and CEO of a luxe line of handbags, Canvas & Hyde, based in Brooklyn.
