Annette Sharp: Rumours swirl about Erin Molan’s future on 2DAY FM breakfast show

2Day-FM’s breakfast show ratings topped off a horror week for Erin Molan, who appeared in court for her defamation case, and announced she had split with her fiance, writes Annette Sharp.

2DAY FM radio executives have scotched rumours Erin Molan will be dumped from the program’s breakfast show that also stars Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee.

Last Tuesday the trio’s show plummeted to almost a 2.4 per cent market share of the Sydney radio pie.

It’s the show’s lowest figure of the year — despite 2DAY bosses throwing big dollars at a saturated marketing campaign for the program.

Given Melburnian Hughes has a proven radio record and Kavalee is liked by management, sources last week said executives at the Southern Cross Austereo station were considering the position of Molan, a newcomer to the medium who was reportedly signed to help attract Sydney listeners.

As ratings show, the reverse has happened, with the program crashing from a 4.4 share when it premiered at the start of the year.

Hughes upped stakes and relocated to Sydney to front the show.

Recently he revealed he has suspended his search for a Sydney property — interpreted by insiders as a sign he may be preparing to relocate back to Melbourne at year’s end.

It was a bad week for Molan. She has been fighting her defamation case against The Daily Mail in court, and on Thursday confirmed the break-up of the relationship in an Instagram post.

The announcement comes a week after the couple’s $1.2 million Randwick apartment was listed for sale.

Rumours about the precarious state of her relationship with policeman Sean Ogilvy first started circulating in 2018 — soon after she gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Eliza.

Ogilvy hasn’t been photographed publicly with Molan for years.

While her Instagram account regularly features the people she works with and is close to — everyone from “the great Russell Crowe” to boxer Danny Green — Ogilvy has been conspicuously absent.

Molan returned to work six weeks after Eliza’s birth in 2018 — a heroic effort but one that, some say, took a toll on her relationship with the “very down-to-earth policeman”.

KAK QUIET ON PLANS TO SUE NDIS FOR DISCRIMINATION

It’s the question on everyone’s lips. Having shattered a Woollahra property record with the sale of her home for $22 million, will Kerri-Anne Kennerley proceed with tacit plans to sue the federal government over what she calls age discrimination associated with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

Barely four weeks after telling media she felt her 77-year-old husband John was discriminated against because he was over 65 — the age limit to be eligible for NDIS support — when he broke his neck in a fall from a golf club veranda, Kennerley now stands to recoup the
$2 million she maintains it cost her to provide care for her husband prior to his death.

Her manager Sean Anderson couldn’t be reached for comment yesterday.

GOLDEN HANDSHAKES

Liquidators appointed to the Golden Century Seafood Restaurant have held their first meeting with creditors to discuss the Haymarket institution’s insolvency.

Desmond Teng, of administrator Chifley Advisory, conducted a virtual meeting on August 27 attended by creditors, including employees and representatives of former employees.

According to the meeting minutes, the creditors of Golden Century, now trading as Honourful Pty Ltd, are seeking upwards of $2.7 million.

Listed among company assets to be liquidated are miscellaneous plant and equipment, perishable goods (since sold for $5000 to a related party), and “an extensive wine collection”.

Early estimates put the outstanding employee entitlements at $1.2 million.

A sub-landlord of Honourful, called Faithful, also has made a claim, which is being treated as a contingent claim.

Mr Teng declined to comment.
