‘Adele Darzeen’: the laughs continue after John Travolta’s big Oscars gaffe

JOHN Travolta had one job at yesterday’s Oscars and he bungled it spectacularly. One day on, the jokes keep rolling in - you can even ‘Travolta-fy’ your name.

Travolta mangles intro

THE jokes continue to roll in, one day on from John Travolta’s bizarre onstage blunder at the 2014 Academy Awards.

Travolta had one job at the awards: to introduce Frozen actress Idina Menzel’s performance of the Oscar-winning song Let It Go.

After a glowing speech in which he referred to the Broadway star’s vocal talents, he introduced her as ‘Adele Darzeen’. Or ‘Adeley Dazeem’. Or maybe it was ‘Adal Dazem.’

Whatever it was, to call it a mispronunciation of Menzel’s name (which is pronounced, incidentally, as ‘uh-dee-nuh min-zel’) would be grand understatement.

Within hours, the internet was abuzz with the question: Who is Adele Darzeen? Twitter parody accounts were set up ...

Adele Darzeen got her own Beyonce-style album cover:

She woke up like this - Flawless.

And now, website Slate has created a John Travolta name generator. Enter your name, and in an instant you’ll find out how it would sound if John Travolta was saying/mangling it.

Travolta’s own name put through the generator is ‘Jan Thozomas’ — we thought we’d see how it might’ve sounded had Travolta announced the big four acting awards yesterday:
