Electric mermaid DJ Tigerlily signs residency deal at Justin Hemmes Pacha club
One of Australia's hottest music commodities, Dara Hayes, is home for Christmas, having signed an exclusive deal with Sydney nightclub Pacha.
In just two short years colourful Maroubra DJ Tigerlily has gone from working in retail to remixing and mashing up on the international dance music stage.
Tigerlily is the stage name for Dara Hayes who grew up with the salt of Maroubra beach in her hair and has found international success spinning sets at the Future Music festival, Creamfields and as an opening act for Avicii and Tommy Trash.
We caught up with the jetsetting music princess when she was in Sydney this week for her Stereosonic gig and asked her what it was like to be home.
"I love it," she said. "It is amazing. I will always be a Maroubra girl. We live close to (the) beach, so I can look out to the ocean.
"To have clean, fresh air is something really appreciate after travelling to a lot of big cities. I also love the community aspect of Maroubra - it has still that small town feel."
Tigerlily has a hectic schedule leading up to Christmas but will take a break to celebrate a traditional English Christmas dinner with her family at Maroubra on Christmas Eve before heading to the Sunburnt Festival at Bondi on Christmas Day.
Then she is off to the US on January 2. Her Christmas wish for the next two years is to spread her brand worldwide.
And she is on track to do just that as one of Australia's hottest dance commodities.
Tigerlily, who has two singles in the market and an EP due next April, is still trying to process her rapid success.
"The past year has been so crazy… but I think it comes down to hard work, good luck, good management and being in the right place at the right time as well as being able to mix."
