Public primary schools took out six of the top 10 spots for Year 5 NAPLAN results, an analysis of the state’s top performing schools has found.
While selective public high schools dominated the top 10 for Year 9 results, the exclusive analysis of five years of results for the state’s NAPLAN results by The Daily Telegraph can reveal.
The top performing Year 5 school between 2014 and 2018 was Sydney Grammar School, in Darlinghurst, where the average yearly result NAPLAN score was 3113.6.
The selective James Ruse Agricultural High School in Carlingford, was the state’s top Year 9 school with average yearly results of 3719.6.
Rankings for the best performing schools were established by combining every school’s results across the five different NAPLAN subjects and calculating the yearly average score.
Each school’s results were independently collated through the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
The state’s s second-best performing Year 5 school was Abbotsleigh, in Wahroonga in the city’s leafy north, with average yearly results of 2961.8.

The third-highest scoring Year 5 school was St Aloysius’ College, in Kirribilli, where the average yearly results across the five years were 2957.4.
It was followed closely by Woollahra Public School with a score of 2957.2 and Artarmon Public School with a score of 2939.4.
The second-best performing Year 9 school was Sydney Girls High School, in Surry Hills where the average yearly results was 3598.4.
North Sydney Girls High School, in Crows Nest, had the third highest average yearly results with scores of 3584.0.
