HSC 2019: Inner City Sydney schools ranked by results

We’ve crunched the HSC results across NSW to bring you the ultimate guide to the best and worst schools. Find out where your school came.

As students pick up their HSC results we can named the top-ranked HSC schools in the Inner City Sydney region.

The top-performing schools have been ranked according to the number of Band 6 scores they achieved, expressed as a percentage of the school’s total course completions.

The most successful school in Inner City Sydney was the Conservatorium High School, in the CBD, which achieved 150 Band 6 scores from 217 course completions.

This result means that 69 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

Conservatorium High Schools also achieved a First in Course Award, with Isaac Davis topping the state in Music Extension.

The second in Inner City Sydney was Sydney Grammar School, in Darlinghurst, an independent school for boys.

Sydney Grammar produced 714 Band 6 scores from 1165 course completions, meaning 61 per cent of the school’s course completions ranked in the top band.

Sydney Grammar swept the First in Course Awards as well, with one of their students Adam Gottschalk topping the state in French Extension, Biology and Visual Arts.

Sydney Grammar boys Christian Farrell and Lachlan Tran also achieved First in Course in Italian Extension and Geography respectively.

Rounding out the top three most successful schools in the region was Sydney Girls High School, in Surry Hills.

Sydney Girls achieved 561 Band 6 scores from a possible 994 course completions.

This result means that 56 per cent of Sydney Girls High School’s course completions were ranked in the top band.

Sydney Girls produced three First in Course results, with Catherine Nguyen topping the state in Latin Extension, Renee Giang topping the state in English Extension 1 and Yitong Huang topping the state in French Continuers.

Coming in at fourth was Reddam House, in Woollahra, which produced 297 Band 6 scores from 558 course completions.

This result means that 53 per cent of Reddam’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The independent coeducational school also had two students outrank all others in the state, with Ping Huang coming first in Chinese and Literature, and Yuming Zheng topping the state in English EAL/D.

The fifth best-performing school was Sydney Boys High School, in Surry Hills, which achieved 640 Band 6 results from a total of 1244 course completions.

This result means that 51 per cent of Sydney Boys’ course completions ranked in the top band.

In sixth place was Meriden School, in Strathfield, which produced 338 Band 6 scores from 789 course completions.

This result means that 42.8 per cent of Meriden’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The independent Anglican girls school also achieved an equal First in Course in English EAL/D thanks to student Jiaqi Xue.

Closely following was Kambala, in Rose Bay, which produced the seventh-best performance in Inner City Sydney.

Kambala produced 192 Band 6 results from a possible 449 course completions, meaning 42.7 per cent of their students’ scores ranked in the top band.

In eighth place was SCEGGS Darlinghust, which produced 270 Band 6 results out of 662 course completions.

This result means that 40.7 per cent of SCEGGS’s course completions ranked in the top band.

SCEGGS student Louise Godhard also achieved a First in Course in Chemistry, beating out all others in the state.

Trailing closely behind in ninth place was St Catherine’s School, in Waverley, which produced 240 Band 6 results from a possible 597 course completions.

This result means that 40.2 per cent of course completions at the Catholic girls school ranked in the top band.

Rounding out the top ten Inner City Sydney HSC performers was Fort Street High School, in Petersham.

The academically-selective school achieved 341 Band 6 results from a total of 597 course completions.

This result means that 38 per cent of Fort Street’s course completions ranked in the top band.

The most improved schools in Inner City Sydney were calculated by comparing the number of Band 6 results as a percentage of total course completions from 2018 to this year.

St Vincent’s College, in Potts Point, was the region’s biggest improver, increasing its percentage of Band 6 results by 13.5 per cent since last year.

In second place was The McDonald College, in North Strathfield, which increased its percentage of Band 6 results by 13 per cent since last year.

The third-biggest improvement was produced by the International Grammar School, in Ultimo, which increased its percentage of Band 6 results by 9 per cent.
