Ranked: How every Gold Coast school performed in 2025 NAPLAN

Newly released NAPLAN results have revealed the Gold Coast’s best and worst performing schools for 2025. Search our interactive.

The Southport School is among the top performing schools across the Gold Coast, based on an independent analysis of newly-released 2025 NAPLAN results.

The data, released by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) on Wednesday, revealed The Southport School (TSS) had the highest Year 5 NAPLAN results, scoring an average of 550.5.

This was a slight drop from its 2024 average score of 560.8 but marked the third year in a row the prestigious boys school came out on top.

TSS Head of Preparatory School Jeff Symms said being consistently ranked as a top school on the Gold Coast was an outstanding achievement

“Given how fully our boys engage in their academic program, and the dedication and expertise our teachers bring every day, these outcomes are not surprising,” he said.

“It offers a timely reminder that sustained effort and high expectations lead to outstanding rewards.

“Our teachers are incredibly proud of the boys and their commitment to learning.”

Mr Symms said high academic achievement was a strategic priority for TSS.

“With increasing national attention on the declining performance and engagement of boys in education, it has become even more important for schools to understand why boys disengage and how best to address it,” he said.

“At TSS, we have never accepted the notion that boys are inherently less capable than girls academically.

“By maintaining a clear focus on the core purpose of primary education, building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy and by selecting evidence-based, and at times, innovative teaching methodologies, thoughtful assessment practices, and carefully structured programs to support all learners, we continue to see boys thrive.”

Elite Southport girls school St Hilda’s was runner up for the second year in the row with an average of 536.6, also lower than its 2024 average score of 545.6.

Mudgeeraba’s Somerset College narrowly performed better than Arundel’s A.B. Paterson College, scoring an average 523.8 and 522.8 respectively.

Saint Stephen’s College rounded out the top five with an average score of 521.4.

For secondary results, Somerset College was the top performer for the third year in a row with an average score of 635.1.

This was a slight increase from its average score of 631 last year.

All Saints Anglican School came in second with an average score of 620.8, just pipping A.B. Paterson College in third spot, scoring on average 618.6.

Emmanuel College and Saint Stephen’s College rounded out the top five with an average score of 616.8 and 601.2 respectively.

Upper Coomera State School, William Duncan State School and Worongary State School were among the lowest performers.

ACARA chief executive Stephen Gniel said the data allowed for a fair celebration of improvement by taking into consideration each school’s circumstances.

“The return of information on student progress, following improvements to NAPLAN including assessments and results being available earlier in the year, shows how much the same students at the same school have improved since their previous NAPLAN assessments,” he said.

“Providing the Australian community with information on school education through ACARA’s My School website is complemented by the National Report on Schooling.

Encouragingly, this is showing student attendance heading in the right direction while also reinforcing the need for continued focus and prioritisation.”
