What drives a teacher to have a relationship with their student?

A female teacher from the beleaguered Malek Fahd Islamic School is under police investigation over allegations she sent inappropriate texts to a male student in her class.

School staff became aware of the incident in November last year concerning the woman and immediately alerted child protection authorities and the NSW Police.

The young teacher was immediately called into the office and stood down that day with pay and has been temporarily banned from returning to the school.

A NSW Police spokesman said they were still investigating the allegations, six months after they first became aware of them.

No charges have been laid.

“In November 2020, detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation after reports of inappropriate behaviour involving a woman,” a spokesman said. “As the investigation is ongoing, no further information is available at this time.”

It is understood police are investigating whether the messages were of a sexual nature.

A school source said: “She simply disappeared from the school.”

Nobody was home when The Daily Telegraph visited the young teacher’s house in Western Sydney on Thursday.

It is unknown if she has taken up a job teaching elsewhere.

A school spokesman said they called the police to report the young teacher on the day that staff became aware of the alleged incident in November last year.

“The school complied with and fulfilled all mandatory reporting obligations to all relevant authorities,” he said.

It is the latest scandal for the embattled facility, which in 2008 was accused of enrolling students into TAFE who it suspected would drag down its HSC scores.

It was later found to be operating for-profit between 2010 and 2012 by paying inflated rents to the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils — the nation’s peak body for Muslims.

Then in 2013, it was discovered the school had enrolled more than 500 children more than the Bankstown Council approved student cap for the school.

The school’s board was replaced in 2016 in a bid to put its troubled past behind it.

But it hit the headlines again after the school employed a former prison psychologist who was banned from practising after she had an “inappropriate” relationship with a notorious Skaf gang rapist.

Then in June, NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell asked the school to inform her how it planned to repay $11 million in state government funding it had received while it was operating for profit in 2014 and 2015.
