Derryn Hinch's crusade against child sex offenders continues

TO give him his due, Magistrate Charles Rozencwajg was rather prescient in sentencing me, as he deliberately slammed door after door on any potential media outlet.

Had I not been stymied, I would have written a feature for the following Saturday edition of the Herald Sun complete with the first photo of Prisoner Hinch in his electronic monitoring ankle bracelet.

I'd already written the intro in my head. It would be an Open Letter to Ted Baillieu and would say:

"Mr Premier, I am under home detention and wearing this offender's monitoring bracelet because of child sex crimes. Not because I committed any - but because I tried to expose people who did.

"Some of the worst sex offenders in this country now live anonymously in Victoria, with their photos and identities suppressed under a law your Government inherited. A law you can, and must, change."

The magistrate's welter of special conditions on my home detention stifled the opinion piece. But only for a while.

It was as valid when I returned to the 3AW airwaves yesterday as it was back in July. Maybe more so.
