Saving lives and jobs are 'important tasks as we continue through the pandemic'

Sydneysiders have continued to be horrified by the rising Covid numbers gripping the state - recording one of its worst days since the pandemic began on Tuesday with 919 new cases.

Sydney has been in lockdown since June, after a limousine driver in the eastern suburbs, who had been transporting international flight crews, tested positive to the Delta variant.

After spreading through the eastern suburbs via Westfield in Bondi Junction, the outbreak moved to the city’s west.

Then a June birthday party in the southwestern suburb of West Hoxton then became a superspreader event, causing 45 positive linked cases, and led the NSW government to launch stay-at-home restrictions for residents in three eastern suburbs local government areas and Greater Sydney.

By June 26, Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong were thrown into lockdown.

Tracking data showing the location of active COVID-19 cases in NSW is crucial for health authorities in the fight against the outbreak.

The data from NSW Health has led to stricter lockdown restrictions for those hardest hit Sydney council areas in the city’s west and southwest, and is likely to eventually determine when restrictions might ease.

These are the postcodes which have the highest number of active cases as of August 22, with people moving the most around while infectious, potentially spreading the deadly virus to loved ones and the wider community completely unawares.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said Fairfield was the state‘s biggest area of concern, before Canterbury-Bankstown claimed the title in recent weeks.
