Health authorities are on high alert after a number of people tested positive to Covid-19 following a South Sydney funeral attended by hundreds of people.
NSW Health confirmed on Friday that 14 people have tested positive for the virus after attending the funeral service at the Wanda Surf Club in Cronulla on November 18.
It is believed at least 600 people attended the service, with many going to a wake afterwards at Highfield Caringbah.
NSW Health has urged everyone who attended the funeral or wake to get tested immediately, even if they are fully vaccinated or do not have any symptoms.
“The District’s Public Health Unit considers that everyone who attended the funeral at Wanda Surf Club on Thursday morning, 18 November, or the wake afterwards at Highfield Caringbah, is a close contact and has asked all to get tested as soon as possible and isolate in accordance with NSW self-isolation guidelines,” a South Eastern Sydney Local Health District spokeswoman said.
“Everyone who attended the funeral or the wake is asked to get tested, even if they are fully vaccinated or do not have any symptoms.”
NSW recorded 261 new Covid cases and no deaths on Friday.
